Wired Network Points: More Reliable Than Wi-Fi for Home Offices and Entertainment

Wi-Fi drops out, slows under load, and can't match the consistency of a wired connection — especially if you work from home, stream 4K, or run a home server. We install CAT6 structured cabling with flush-mounted wall data points, tidy cable runs, and proper patch connections. Whether it's a single point for your home office desk or a full structured cabling job across a new home, it's done properly with no visible mess and no shortcuts.

What You Get With LHN Electrical

How a Data Cabling Job Works

  1. Scope Discussion

We talk through where you need points and how the network will be set up — home office, TV points, gaming, or a full home network with a patch panel.

  2. Cable Route Planned

We plan the neatest route for each cable run — wall-to-wall or through ceiling cavities where accessible — before any holes are made.

  3. Cabling and Termination

CAT6 cable pulled, wall plates fitted, and patch connections terminated cleanly. Patch panel installed if required.

  4. Tested, Labelled, and Ready

All points tested end-to-end and labelled. Ready to connect your devices and get online.

Data Cabling Questions

Can you run cable in an existing home, or is it only for new builds?
Both. Running cable in an existing home takes a bit more planning to route neatly, but it's very doable. We work with the existing wall and ceiling structure to get cable where it needs to go with minimal disruption.
What's the difference between CAT5e and CAT6?
CAT6 handles faster speeds over longer runs and deals with interference better than CAT5e. For any new installation it's worth doing CAT6 — the cost difference is small but the performance and future-proofing is worth it.
Can you set up a patch panel or network cabinet?
Yes. If you want a centralised patch panel to manage multiple data points cleanly, we can set that up as part of the job. It's the right approach if you're running more than two or three points.
