Your Switchboard Is the Heart of Your Electrical System

An old ceramic fuse board or outdated circuit breaker panel is a safety issue — and it won't cope with the demands of a modern home. We replace old switchboards with modern units fitted with safety switches (RCDs) and circuit breakers that comply with current Australian Standards. Whether you're upgrading for safety, adding capacity for solar or an EV charger, or preparing for a major renovation, this is work that needs to be done properly.

Why This Job Needs a Licensed Electrician

How a Switchboard Upgrade Works

  1. Inspection and Quote

We inspect your existing switchboard, assess what the new board needs to handle — current load plus any planned additions — and provide a written upfront quote.

  2. Planned Outage, Clean Install

We coordinate a brief power outage with you, remove the old board, and install the new one. Every circuit is wired, labelled clearly, and protected with RCDs.

  3. Full System Test and Certificate

We test the full system before restoring power, confirm everything is working, and issue a certificate of compliance — required by insurers and for future property sales.

Common Questions

How do I know if my switchboard needs upgrading?
Key signs include ceramic fuses instead of circuit breakers, no safety switches (RCDs), frequent tripping, or a board that looks old and overcrowded. If you're adding solar, an EV charger, or a major appliance, it's worth having the board inspected first.
Are safety switches required by law in NSW?
Yes. NSW regulations require RCDs on all power and lighting circuits in residential properties. Many older homes are non-compliant. A switchboard upgrade is the cleanest way to get the whole property up to standard in one job.
How long will I be without power during the upgrade?
Most residential switchboard upgrades take a half to full day. The actual power outage is usually two to four hours. We'll confirm the expected downtime when we quote so you can plan around it.

Wollongong Homes Need Boards That Keep Up

Many homes across the Illawarra were built in the 1970s and 80s — and a lot of those switchboards haven't been touched since. With solar and EV chargers becoming more common in the region, old boards are being pushed well past their limits. We've upgraded switchboards in homes right across Wollongong, Dapto, Woonona, and Port Kembla, and we take the time to get the labelling, earthing, and RCD configuration right.
